OUR SERVICES

The H2Accelerate collaboration was formed in 2020 between major hydrogen infrastructure players and truck OEMs to accelerate the uptake of green hydrogen for trucking. Delta H is the secretariat for H2Accelerate, providing a broad range of services including:

  • Acquisition of European funding to support the deployment of fuel cell trucks and hydrogen refuelling infrastructure.
  • Development of whitepapers and policy position papers describing the need for hydrogen trucking and the policy support required to enable deployment.
  • Direct advocacy work with European and national stakeholders to encourage the implementation of supportive policy and funding mechanisms.
  • Public communications of the collaboration to increase the project’s visibility, including press releases, social media, conference presentations, publication of articles, and webinars.

Whitepapers and policy position papers can be found on the H2Accelerate website.

Strategy

Delta H staff have supported the development of many of Europe’s leading hydrogen and green chemical projects. Building on this wealth of expertise, we help leading private and public organisations to define their decarbonisation strategy and benefit from the opportunities associated with the energy transition. Our understanding of the conditions within the zero-carbon energy sector allows us to support clients with these objectives by:

  • Mapping the demand for hydrogen and green chemicals based on industry and location.
  • Analysing the policies supporting zero-carbon projects across Europe and the UK
  • Forecasting the market for zero-carbon technologies and products to construct a robust, future-proof business case.

Example project: A leading European fuel supplier required support in defining the location for the deployment of their next 10s-100s of Hydrogen Refuelling Stations. We performed a comprehensive market analysis, developing a detailed cost model and exploring national policy support for hydrogen road mobility across Europe. We used the market analysis to develop a strategy report – recommending target locations for the next phase of the company’s station deployment. Building on our initial work, we subsequently develop a detailed business model for the company outlining a financing and funding strategy for this next phase of refuelling station deployment.

Deployments

We provide full support with the deployment of zero carbon solutions, at scale, from project conception to the acquisition of funding. Projects are often complex, involving multiple parties and novel technologies, and requiring additional funding and regulatory support. Our Deployment service line offers flexible support to develop technically and economically viable projects. Our expertise includes:

  • Project initiation and development
  • Feasibility studies and project business planning
  • Project and stakeholder management – particularly for projects involving many development partners
  • Funding acquisition – €100s-Millions of capital funding won on behalf of clients to date
  • Understanding the impact of the evolving policy landscape on large deployment projects

Example projects: Five projects required bid-writing support for the UK’s Hydrogen Allocation Rounds (HAR), one of the largest funding calls for hydrogen production created to date. Assisting at the early-stages of development, we carried out feasibility studies and provided full bid-writing support for the five projects, totalling around 170MW of electrolysis capacity and a total funding request of approximately £2bn.

In 2023, we supported four bids to the UK Net Zero Hydrogen Fund, all of which reached the interview stage and three of which were selected for funding. A total of six projects were selected for the interview stage nationally, four of which were supported by Delta H.

Commercial

The need to transition away from fossil fuels has given rise to significant innovation and opportunities to invest in companies and projects driving the zero-carbon sector forward. We support clients’ investment decisions through:

  • Market analysis to understand the scale of an opportunity and the existing competitors operating in the market, with a particular focus on the impact of an uncertain policy environment on market dynamics
  • Technical due diligence, to understand the relative advantages and drawbacks of a technology offering or project compared to existing and potential future alternatives
  • Commercial due diligence, to assess the business case for technologies and projects across the supply chain
Our leading expertise and experience across the hydrogen and green commodity supply chain allows our clients to invest with confidence.

Example project: A leading venture capital fund required assistance determining the competitiveness and market size of a novel palladium membrane hydrogen separation technology. Palladium separation has a great scope of possible applications, including the industrial, gas distribution, and transport sectors. We provided a full market analysis and competitiveness report on the novel technology comparing to existing and developmental technologies and sizing the potential market growth through to 2050. The report market analysis and competitiveness report were subsequently used to inform upon our client’s investment decision.

Deployments

Now is the time to deploy zero carbon solutions, at scale, to allow the technology development and cost reductions which are needed to allow the transition to net zero. These projects are often complex, involving multiple parties and novel technologies, with significant requirements on funding and regulatory support. Independent support can ensure projects are technically and economically viable; Delta H is enabling zero carbon projects through our expertise in:

  • Project initiation and development
  • Feasibility studies and project business planning
  • Project and stakeholder management – particularly for projects involving many development partners
  • Funding acquisition
  • Understanding the impact of the evolving policy landscape on large deployment projects
